1.
How and where can I get software and
maps compatible with my GPS hardware?
Most of the
GPS devices are NMEA compatible. Therefore,
you should get software and maps that
are also NMEA compliant. The following
are some examples: Microsoft Streets
and Trips, Microsoft Autoroute 2003,
Delorme GIS, MM Memory Map, OZI Explorer,
Microsoft MapPoint, and Fugawi software.
These software packages are available
from online stores or Ebay. The price
ranges from $10 to over $100. The
map may be sold separately.
You can also
find some less expensive software
on Cnet: http://download.com.com/sort/3120-20-0-1-3.html?qt=GPS.
Please make sure the software you
download is also NMEA compatible.
2. My
GPS software communicates with GPS
hardware via the COM port. Can I use
GPS hardware that uses a PCMCIA or
USB interface?
Yes, if the
GPS hardware comes with COM port emulation
driver.
3. What
OS does the CF card GPS (BC-307) support?
The
BC-307 supports Windows CE 3.0/Pocket
PC 2002/Pocket PC 2003 for PDA, and
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP for laptop.
Please make sure your PDA also has
a free CF card slot.
4. Can
I use the CF card GPS (BC-307) with
my notebook computer?
Yes,
if your notebook computer has a free
PCMCIA slot and runs Windows OS. The
BC-307 comes with a CF card to PCMCIA
adapter, so you can use the CF card
interface when using it with a PDA
and use the PCMCIA interface when
using it with your notebook computer.
5. Can
the USB GPS (BU-303) work with my
PDA?
The USB port
for PDA is used mostly to synchronize
data with the Notebook or PC, not
for connecting to other USB devices.
At the present time, only Casio E200
and Toshiba e740/750 series are capable
of connecting to other USB devices,
such as the BU-303. Other PDAs, if
equipped with CF card slot and running
Microsoft OS, should consider using
CF card GPS instead (BC-307).
